The South African Forestry Company SOC Limited (SAFCOL) is a Schedule 2 State-Owned Company reporting to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE). Established in 1992, SAFCOL conducts forestry business including timber harvesting, timber processing and related activities, both domestically and internationally.

Corporate Overview & Governance
SAFCOL is one of the largest primary softwood sawloggers in South Africa. As a Schedule 2 public entity, we are mandated to perform a commercial and developmental role in the forestry sector, balancing economic viability with the government's developmental agenda.
Our governance structure is built on a foundation of transparency and accountability, ensuring we deliver value to our shareholder, the South African Government, while maintaining the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
Ministerial Oversight
SAFCOL reports directly to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE). This reporting line ensures our commercial activities align with national environmental policies and conservation goals.

Platorand Training Centre
Located in Sabie, Mpumalanga, the Platorand Training Centre is accredited by the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing SETA and is a member of the Forestry Industry Training Providers Association.
All learning is governed by SAFCOL's Learning & Development Policy and the Bursary Policy. Six programmes are offered to employees and adjacent communities:
- Learnerships - Forestry, Processing, Furniture Making
- Apprenticeships - Millwright, Diesel Mechanic, Electrician, Fitter, Boilermaker
- Internships for graduates
- Bursaries for tertiary studies
