Forestry
SAFCOL manages 187,000 hectares of sustainably certified plantation across Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the IFLOMA estate in Mozambique. We supply 1.4 million cubic metres of timber per annum to the South African economy.
FSC-certified Stewardship
All SAFCOL plantations are certified to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standard. Independent third-party audits ensure that environmental, social and economic standards are maintained across all operations.
SAFCOL was the first state-owned forestry company in South Africa to achieve full FSC certification, with chain-of-custody certification covering harvest, transport and processing at Timbadola Sawmill.

Species Portfolio
SAFCOL plants a balanced mix of Pine, Eucalyptus and Wattle on rotation across all operating regions.

Pine
SA Pine for the structural and non-structural lumber, board and pulp markets. Rotation cycles of 25 to 30 years.

Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus grandis and hybrids on shorter rotations supplying pulp, mining timber and pole markets.

Wattle
Black wattle grown in KwaZulu-Natal for tannin and structural log markets.

Nursery
Seedling production at the JDM Keet and regional nurseries supports replanting cycles.
